Summer Village of Island Lake Fireworks bylaw in alignment with Athabasca County’s fire bylaw (for ease of enforcement) has been passed. A copy of the bylaw is available on our bylaws page.
There have been questions raised in our community regarding building of a connector road between Lakeshore Drive South and Lakeshore Drive North. Council floated the idea at our 2012 General Information Meeting and we have heard back from many of you, both for and against the proposal.
Our biggest concerns are twofold; Emergency Evacuation and Emergency Vehicle Access. If there is a fire at the north end of Lakeshore Drive South there is no escape route. Additionally, in the past 2 years there have been several instances where the Ambulance went down the wrong road and precious time was lost driving all the way around because the road doesn’t go through.
In 2006, Island Lake had a population of 351 living in 273 dwellings, a 76.4% increase from 2001. The summer village has a land area of 1.45 km2 (0.6 sq mi) and a population density of 242.4 /km2 (627.8/sq mi).
