24 APRIL 2024 0800 am
Due to increasing wildfire risk, and early fire activity in the region, a complete Fire Ban is now in effect for the Summer Village of Island Lake and all fires must be extinguished.
Under this Ban:
- The issuance of new fire permits is prohibited.
- The lighting of outdoor fires is prohibited.
Including all open fires, campfires, fires used for cooking, briquette barbecues, burning barrels, chimeneas and portable wood burning fire pits. - The discharge of fireworks and use of exploding targets is prohibited.
For greater clarity, this Restriction does not include:
- Fires which are contained in CSA approved cooking appliances which are fueled by liquid fuel (propane, natural gas, or camping fuel) such as Barbecues or Camping Stoves;
- Internal household fireplaces with approved spark arrester or screen used to prevent sparks from leaving the chimney;
- CSA approved portable fire pits and radiant heaters which are fueled solely by liquid fuel; and
- Electrically operated pellet smokers where combustion is contained within an engineered firebox.

Protecting Alberta's Water Resources
Invasive Species pose some of the greatest risk to biodiversity in the world. Aquatic invasive species (AIS) can harm native fish, invertebrates and aquatic plants by competing for limited resources, destroying habitat, and thriving in poor water quality/quantity conditions. These harmful AIS, such as zebra and quagga mussels, can also cause massive economic impacts to hydropower operators, irrigation districts and farmers, municipal water intakes (such as drinking and wastewater facilities), and even private property owners (damage to watercraft and equipment, decreases in property values).
